He pioneered the usage of ICG fluorescence in thyroid surgery within the local ENT fraternity fresh from his return from an
overseas stint and soon after the device was available locally.
This new technique adds on new level of certainty in recognising the sometimes-elusive parathyroid gland especially during
difficult thyroid surgery. Loss of this gland results in hypoparathyroidism and resultant hypocalcemia, ie lack of calcium in the
body. Patient would need lifelong calcium suppplements to overcome this problem.
